Law enforcement sources scoff at DHS complaint that city rejected ICE hold on alleged Maspeth killer arsonist

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requested that the city’s Department of Correction (NYCDOC) not release Maspeth resident Roman Amatitla, who DHS labeled as a “criminal illegal alien from Mexico,” who is facing murder and arson charges for allegedly torching a residential building in Flushing, killing four people, including a 3-year-old girl on March 16.

The DHS announcement on April 16 further stated that NYCDOC has stated they will not cooperate with ICE and will release him from jail back onto the streets without communicating with ICE.
