The new year of 2026 saw the “safest January ever” for gun violence, with the fewest murders, shootings, and shooting victims in recorded NYC history, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced on Monday.
According to the NYPD’s latest crime statistics, the Big Apple saw 40 shootings and 47 victims from shootings, compared to the previous all-time lows of 50 and 56, set in 2025 and 2019, respectively.
