‘Heart on my sleeve’: Council Member Justin Brannan sworn in as rep of newly outlined District 47

Council Member Justin Brannan celebrated his election to the helm of the newly outlined District 47 at an inauguration party on Sunday, Jan. 28.

The district, which used to include Coney Island and surrounding neighborhoods, now also encompasses Bay Ridge — formerly a part of Brannan’s old District 43.

Attorney General Letitia James swore in Brannan at Italian eatery Gargulio’s. The room was full of elected officials, Coney Island and Bay Ridge residents, his family, friends, and other local leaders.

James called the politician a “bridge builder” ahead of the sworn proceedings, noting Brannan’s ability to recognize commonality within diverse communities.
