Change could be coming to a community board near you.

Queens Borough President Donovan Richards announced that his office received 931 applications from a diverse group of civic-minded people who seek appointment to one of the borough’s 14 community boards this year. The 931 applications is a borough record and represents a 56.5 percent increase from the 595 applications received by the borough president’s office last year.

The jump in applications is attributed to Richards’ efforts to streamline the application process and engage in outreach on college campuses and elsewhere aimed at creating a more diverse applicant pool.
