New York County Politics will be taking the day off this Monday, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

In light of the chaos and violence we’ve seen in the past few weeks, several prominent figures from across the political spectrum have made desperate calls for peace and unity. These calls, while well-intentioned, are ultimately misguided; before we can start healing, we must ensure that those who have threatened our democracy are held accountable for their actions. To quote Dr. King himself:

True peace is not merely the absence of tension. It is the presence of justice.

NYCP will resume its regular schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
