Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou (D-Financial District, Chinatown) has just announced a plethora of new high profile endorsements for her re-election campaign.
Among the new candidates who have pledged their support are Public Advocate Jumaane Williams (D), City Comptroller Scott Stringer (D), and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer (D). Previously, she had received endorsements from U.S. Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and U.S. Reps. Jerrold Nadler (D-Manhattan, Brooklyn), Nydia Velázquez (D-LES, Brooklyn, Queens) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Bronx).
“I’m honored to receive the endorsements of these incredible leaders,” said Niou. “They’ve fought hard to provide truly progressive change and protections for working families in our city. These three leaders have been steadfast allies in so many of our critical fights for justice: tackling our affordable housing crisis, standing up to powerful corporate interests, fighting for workers’ rights, and more. This election cycle is critical to the future of our community, our state, and our country. With support from leaders like Scott, Jumaane, and Gale, I know we will keep building our progressive movement in the state legislature and continue delivering historic wins for the working families of lower Manhattan and beyond.”
Williams spoke highly of the incumbent, praising her advocacy on behalf of the working class.
“Yuh-Line is an outspoken leader for progress and a fierce advocate for the working families of New York, and I’m proud to support her re-election,” said Williams. “As the child of Taiwanese immigrants who came to this country with next to nothing, Yuh-Line has a deep understanding of the struggles that marginalized communities in our city face, from the affordable housing crisis to rampant income inequality to mass incarceration. We need Yuh-Line’s activism in the Assembly more than ever as we continue our fight for equality in New York.”
Meanwhile, Stringer gave her credit for working alongside him on key issues, such as affordable childcare.
“Over the years I have seen Yuh-Line fight tooth and nail on critical issues that our city faces, and I am so proud to call her my Assemblywoman,” said Stringer. “We have fought together on the issues that matter most to our district, from winning stronger rent laws to advocating for more affordable childcare to working to ensure the safe clean-up of 250 Water Street. I have seen up close that Yuh-Line has the experience and the dedication to push for the progressive change we need in Albany, and I’m excited to continue to do what I’ve always done: support Yuh-Line Niou.”
Finally, Brewer said that she witnessed firsthand just how dedicated Niou is to her district.
“Yuh-Line is exactly the kind of fierce advocate we need representing the working families of our city in the Assembly,” said Brewer. “I’ve witnessed Yuh-Line fighting tirelessly for her district – spearheading meetings for our school task force, cracking down on illegal intercity bus operations, and standing with the 250 Water Street working group – and I know that she’s the right person to continue leading this work. As a fellow Manhattanite and lifelong advocate for progress, I’m thrilled to back her for re-election.”
