Queensboro FC, the first professional men’s soccer team in Queens, ran upfield this week to pitch in with U.S. Rep. Gregory Meeks (D- Jamaica, Laurelton, Rosedale, Cambria Heights, Saint Albans, Springfield Gardens, The Rockaways, JFK Airport) and City Council Member Daneek Miller (D-Cambria Heights, Hollis, Jamaica, St. Albans, Queens Village, Springfield Gardens) to donate 800 surgical masks to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center as critical shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) continue.

Queens is an epicenter of the COVID-19 crisis. Hospitals are currently operating at more than 100% capacity and are in dire need of supplies. Queensboro FC and Krane have partnered with local leaders from across Queens to donate supplies to local hospitals in addition to Jamaica Hospital, including Elmhurst Hospital, the hardest hit medical facility in New York City.

“Our doctors, nurses, hospital staff, first responders, and essential workers are true heroes and we must do everything we can to keep them safe,” said Jonathan Krane, CEO of KraneShares and Queensboro FC founding partner. “The people of Queens are strong and we look out for each other. Queensboro FC is proud to work with Congressman Meeks and Council Member Miller to support our healthcare workers at Jamaica Hospital, across the borough, and throughout New York City. Together, we’ll get through this.”

“It will take all of us working together to get through this pandemic, and across Queens, we are seeing people step up to support one another. Thank you to Council Member Miller and Queensboro FC for their efforts to bring much-needed equipment to our medical staff at Jamaica Hospital,” said Meeks. “Our healthcare workers are making tremendous sacrifices, and this donation will help remind them that all of Queens is supporting them.”

“The COVID-19 pandemic has depleted key resources in our hospitals and left our medical workers vulnerable,” said Miller. “Our doctors, nurses, and hospital staff are on the frontlines and need support. I am excited to partner with Congressman Meeks, Jonathan Krane and Queensboro FC to bring much needed supplies to Jamaica Hospital.”

Queensboro FC will begin play in 2021 in the USL Championship, the top tier of the United Soccer League. Queensboro FC’s ownership group is led by international soccer star David Villa and New York entrepreneur Jonathan Krane. For more information about Queensboro FC visit: www.queensborofc.com
