Maloney Reiterates Call to Renew VAWA

Representative Carolyn Maloney

Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens) got on Twitter yesterday to repeat her call to renew the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).

Her tweet came days after the death of 19-year-old college student Ruth George. Reportedly, a man catcalled her and then murdered her when she refused to respond to his advances.

“Ruth’s murder was gruesome and senseless, and sadly she is not alone,” said Maloney. “Violence against women is pervasive & our nation must show women that we are not negligent to their harassment and abuse. The Senate must renew VAWA and value women’s lives more than partisan political games.”
