City Councilman Chaim Deutsch (D=Sheepshead Bay, Manhattan Beach, Brighton Beach, Homecrest, Midwood) is both a noodge (Yiddish meaning to pester with constant requests, complaints, or urgings) and a mensch (Yiddish for a person of integrity and honor).

When it calls for Deutsch to get something done for his district he will hound the mayor, the city council speaker and any agency involved until it is done.

On the other hand, Deutsch has proven to be an excellent liaison between the large Jewish, Muslim and Russian communities in his district.

The son of parents, who went through the Holocaust, Deutsch grew up humbly in Williamsburg and Borough Park, and for some time was a pizza maker at a Kosher pizzeria. As a matter of fact, that’s how he met his wife.
