Levine to Host Back-to-School Party
Council Member Mark Levine (D-Manhattan Valley, Manhattanville) will be hosting his sixth annual back-to-school block party this Thursday.
The party will be stocked with free school supplies and other educational resources for anyone in attendance.

Jackson to Host Forum on New Rent Laws
State Senator Robert Jackson (D-Washington Heights, Fort George, Inwood) will be hosting a forum on new rent laws this Wednesday.
The forum, sponsored by the Riverside Edgecombe Neighborhood Association (RENA), will focus on the new tenant protection laws that were introduced and passed during the latest legislative session.
The event will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. at 99 Fort Washington Ave.
Brewer to Speak at “Rebuilding New York” Summit
Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer (D) will be a guest speaker at City & State New York’s “Rebuilding New York” Summit.
The focus of the discussion will be the task of rebuilding New York’s archaic, decaying infrastructure – particularly the subways. Brewer and several other guests, among them Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez (D-Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill), will discuss how to most affectively address the issue from a policymaking standpoint.
The event will take place on Tuesday, Sep. 24 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Baruch College, 55 Lexington Ave.
Espaillat Holds Transportation Task Force Meeting on Engaging MWBEs
Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) convened his Transportation Task Force last week to discuss how to best engage minority- and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs) in infrastructure projects.
He partnered with the General Contractors Association of New York, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer’s Office, and the New York Women’s Chamber of Commerce to present information on the challenges MWBEs face in securing contracts, and the process they must follow to earn certification.
“This is just the first step in what must be an ongoing effort to bring more MWBEs into this process and bring jobs and business to our very diverse community,” said Espaillat. “The efforts to improve MWBE engagement comes from the top, but we have to do the work on the ground to make sure these businesses know when opportunities come available and we must make sure they have the tools they need to get engaged and succeed.”
