Johnson Vindicated By Transit Survey

A survey conducted by City Council Speaker Corey Johnson (D-Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen) revealed exactly what he’s been saying for years; New Yorkers aren’t satisfied with the subway system.

Earlier this year, Johnson polled over 16,000 New Yorkers on their typical experiences riding the subway – such as the number of delays they experience in a week. The results, which were shared yesterday by Johnson and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams (D), were less than favorable; for instance, the vast majority of those polled claimed they experienced delays “a few times a week” or “every day”.

“It’s no secret that I’ve had a lot to say about the City’s mass transit system recently, but I think it is vital that the voices of the riders never get left out of conversations on how to solve our mass transit crisis,” said Johnson. “New Yorkers who ride the subways and buses every day know better than most that something needs to change, and I hope their answers to these surveys add to the chorus of voices around our City and throughout our state calling for big ideas and serious solutions to get our trains back on track and our buses moving again. I will never stop fighting to make it easier to get around our City and I will always do so with the concerns of subway and bus riders in mind.”

The poll results can be viewed in their entirety here.

Espaillat Demands to See Unabridged Mueller Report

Representative Adriano Espaillat (D-Washington Heights, Sugar Hill) released a series of tweets yesterday calling on U.S. Attorney General William Barr (R) to release the Mueller report in its entirety.

Special Council Robert Mueller (R) completed and submitted his report detailing the results of the Russia probe last Friday. Two days later, Barr summarized the report in a four-page letter to Congress, which claimed that Muller had not found sufficient evidence to convict President Donald Trump (R) of collusion with Russia or obstruction of justice.

But Espaillat said that the summary made available to the public was far from sufficient, and that the American public deserves nothing less than full transparency.

“The fact that Special Counsel Mueller’s report does not exonerate the President on a charge as serious as obstruction of justice demonstrates how urgent it is that the full report and underlying documentation be made public immediately,” said Espaillat. “Americans deserve transparency. Anything less would be an insult to our democratic tradition.”
