Maloney Grills Michael Cohen During Testimony

Assemblywoman Carolyn Maloney (D-Yorkville, Upper East Side) got the opportunity to ask President Donald Trump’s ex-attorney Michael Cohen several powerful questions during his testimony before the House Oversight and Reform Committee yesterday.

In his first public appearance before Congress, Cohen was forced to testify about his role in Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Maloney pressed him on several different issues, including the extent of Trump’s control over the actions of Trump Organization and Trump’s failure to include his sizable hush-money payment to Stormy Daniels on his 2017 financial disclosure form.

Thanks in part to her efforts, Cohen admitted that, “there was nothing that happened at the Trump Organization…that did not go through Mr. Trump with his approval and sign-off.”

City Councilman Ben Kallos (D-Yorkville, Lenox Hill) has recently introduced a resolution to promote the passage of legislation that would prohibit vertical integration in the recreational marijuana industry.

Resolution 738, which is also sponsored by City Councilwoman Alicka Ampry-Samuel (D-Bedford-Stuyvesant, East Flatbush), was introduced for the purpose of promoting small business growth within the industry and preventing it from being monopolized by one or two companies.

“We do not want a small number of big businesses to control this industry, especially as NY has been the epicenter of the drug war,” said Kallos.

Today the Commission will be discussing circuit breakers and other methods of providing transitional relief.

The meeting is slated for today from 3 – 5 p.m., at Spector Hall at 22 Reade St.
