Rodriguez to Rally in Support of Licenses for All
City Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez (D-Washington Heights, Inwood) will be rallying today in support of Resolution 100-2018.
The resolution, of which Rodriguez is a prime sponsor, calls on the New York legislature to pass laws that would enable undocumented immigrants to receive driver’s licenses, regardless of their citizenship status. Doing so would allow New York’s more than 500,000 undocumented residents to receive adequate training and education on New York’s driving laws, thus reducing the incidence of accidents in the city.
The rally is slated for today at 12:00 p.m., on the steps of City Hall.
Brewer and Chin Apologize for Pandemonium at SoHo Meeting
Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and City Councilwoman Margaret Chin (D-Battery Park City, Chinatown) had to apologize yesterday for a chaotic, poorly managed meeting at SoHo.
Brewer and Chin hosted an open house meeting last Wednesday about the possible rezoning of SoHo and NoHo. The turnout for the meeting was significantly higher than either of them expected, and as a result, problems arose. They quickly ran out of seating, and since they didn’t think to provide a microphone, anyone who tried to speak was drowned out.
“We apologize for being unprepared for the tremendous turnout — over 250 people attended,” read a letter from Brewer. “We’ll do better for the next meeting in February.”
Johnson Says Single People Can Enjoy Valentine’s Day, Too
City Council Speaker Corey Johnson (D-Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen) appeared on Pix11 recently to talk about his favorite way to enjoy Valentine’s Day: and it’s something that anyone, single or otherwise, can do.
Johnson, who happens to be single himself, said that he often likes to spend Valentine’s Day with a platonic friend. To him, the holiday is a celebration of all forms of love, not just romantic – so there’s no reason for single people to feel lonely or left out.
“I’m having dinner with a single friend,” said Johnson. “We’re gonna go to dinner, see a movie. Valentine’s Day, I know it’s a Hallmark holiday, but it is hard, if you’re single. And you know, I’m still looking for Mr. Right, so if you’re out there, don’t stalk me, but maybe I’ll bump into you one day on the street or on the subway.”
