Assemblymember Daniel O’Donnell’s Public Advocate campaign is on a roll, as State Senator Robert Jackson and Assemblymember Inez Dickens have just joined his growing coalition of support.
O’Donnell first announced last September that he would be “exploring” the possibility of running for Public Advocate. In the following months, he garnered significant support due to his strong record on civil rights and social justice. One of his most notable accomplishments is his sponsorship of the Marriage Equality Act in 2011, a landmark law that legalized same sex marriages in the state of New York for the first time.
“I am excited to support Danny O’Donnell to be our next Public Advocate,” said Jackson. “As a public defender, as an Assemblymember, and as a leader, Danny has devoted his life to making our city better for all of us. From fighting our racist criminal justice system to standing up to corporations like Amazon, Danny is a true blue Democrat, who stands up for our values and isn’t afraid to fight for what’s right.”
O’Donnell had already received endorsements from former Congressmember Charles Rangel, former Assemblymember Keith Wright, and the Frederick E. Samuel Community Democratic Club; with the addition of Jackson and Dickens, he now has most of Harlem’s political leadership on his side.
But O’Donnell’s coalition of support isn’t limited to Manhattan; in fact, he has received endorsements from leaders in all five boroughs, including Assemblymember Maritza Dávila, Assemblymember Cathy Nolan, Assemblymember Michael Benedetto, former Assemblymember Ed Sullivan, and former State Senator Franz Leichter.
“My colleague, Danny O’Donnell, will be a strong and independent Public Advocate who will work tirelessly to bring transparency and accountability to City Hall,” said Dickens. “In Danny O’Donnell, New York City residents will have an independent and tireless fighter who has the knowledge and ability to navigate and advocate on their behalf.”
