Chin, Deutsch, Koo Respond to Recent Hate Crime

Council Members Margaret Chin (D-Battery Park City, Chinatown), Chaim Deutsch (D-Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach) and Peter Koo (D-Downtown Flushing, Murray Hill) released a statement about a hate crime in Brooklyn that left one man dead and two others critically injured.

Last Tuesday, a hammer-wielding assailant attacked three Asian workers at the Seaport Buffet. Fufai Pun, a chef, was killed in the attack, while his two coworkers, Tsz Mat Pun and Kheong Ng-Thang, were hospitalized. In response, Chin, Deutsch and Koo released the following statement:

“We call upon the NYPD and District Attorney Eric Gonzalez to use all available tools to investigate and prosecute this horrific and hate-filled attack,” they said. “Both the DA and the NYPD, have an opportunity to send a clear message that such a clear targeting of the Asian community will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law… let’s be clear: no New Yorker should ever fear that someone could end their lives just because they are of a certain ethnicity.”
