BP Adams To Honor School Crossing Guards Celebrating 660 Years of Service

Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams

Brooklyn Borough President Eric L Adams will present awards to dozens of school crossing guards for protecting children at schools across the borough today.

Each police precinct in Brooklyn selected several crossing guards to be awarded for their compassion, dedication, and years of service. The honorees, who are part of more than 2,500 crossing guards across the five boroughs, have served a combined 660 years of service to their communities.

Adams will celebrate the hard work of school crossing guards who oftentimes work in difficult weather conditions and traffic delays to ensure the safety and security of Brooklyn’s children and the public at-large.

At the event, Adams will be joined by local public safety leaders such as New York City Police Department (NYPD) School Safety Division Assistant Commissioner Ramon F. Garcia and District Council 37 (DC 37) Local 372 President Shaun D. Francois.

The event is slated for 5 p.m., today, Nov. 28, at Brooklyn Borough Hall, at 209 Joralemon Street in Downtown Brooklyn.

Assembly member Walter T. Mosley (D-Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Crown Heights) the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) presented Brooklyn resident Marilyn Tucker with the Patient Courage Award last week.

The Patient Courage Award is given to patient advocates who exhibit dedication and commitment to helping others.

Mosley nominated Tucker for her dedication to improving her local community. Tucker is a lifelong resident of Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Since becoming a patient at Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center (BPMC) in 2001, Marilyn has demonstrated a sincere commitment to the growth and development of BPMC. For the last six years, Marilyn has been an active participant of the Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center Board. During her tenure on the board, Marilyn spearheaded an initiative to integrate mental health and substance abuse services into the BPMC sites.

PhRMA is also awarding a grant to Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center (BPMC) to support their community outreach and patient support programs in the community. BPMC has spent over 40 years providing healthcare service to residents in Northern Brooklyn. They have three locations including a school-based health center and a public housing primary care health center.

“I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to nominate Marilyn Tucker for the Patient Courage Award. It is through her dedication to this community organization that more patients in Brooklyn are receiving the healthcare services they need,” said Mosley.
