City Council Member Mathieu Eugene

Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams (D) and Council Member Mathieu Eugene (D-Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Flatbush, East Flatbush) today will announce an expanded reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the perpetrator responsible for the rape and robbery of a woman near Prospect Park early Sunday morning.

According to the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the 59-year-old victim was on her way home from a family event when the assailant put her in a chokehold, alleged to have a gun and knife, pushed her against a parked van and tried to sexually assault her. He then dragged her behind a bench and raped her, and afterward broke the window of the van, forced the woman inside and tried to sexually assault her again. When he was unable to do so, he stole $10 from her purse before running from the scene.

Adams and Eugene will discuss the urgency of apprehending the suspect in this case, as well as address public safety concerns in the immediate area, including insufficient street lighting.

The event is slated for 11 a.m., today, Nov. 21 at the corner of Parade Place and Parkside Avenue in Prospect Park South.
