In an ironic twist concerning the state lieutenant governor’s race, while Jumaane Williams may be a favorite with the mainly white-run progressive political community, Kathy Hochul is increasingly the favorite with Central Brooklyn’s mainstream black political community.
That after Kathy Hochul recently secured the endorsement of the Vanguard Independent Democrats Association of Brooklyn (VIDA), the oldest and most powerful black political club in Brooklyn.
“Our Democratic clubs in New York City are the building blocks of the Democratic Party, and their support, dedication, and commitment are incredibly important to me,” said Hochul. “I am grateful to my friends at VIDA for their endorsement. We have received an outpouring of enthusiasm and support from Brooklyn and across New York City, and our campaign is excited by this latest show of strength. Over the last four years, I have worked tirelessly with Governor Cuomo to advance a progressive agenda and fight back against the hatred and division coming from Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress. Together, we will continue to move forward to improve the lives of every New Yorker and ensure equality, fairness, and opportunity for all.”
Council Member Robert E. Cornegy Jr. (D-Bedford-Stuyvesant, Northern Crown Heights), a VIDA member and past president, Hochul has proven experience fighting for both affordable housing and jobs throughout the state.
“Kathy understands the needs of Brooklyn constituents and small business owners, and I trust her to continue to push a progressive agenda here in Brooklyn and across New York. I am honored to support her bid for reelection as Lieutenant Governor,” said Cornegy.
“Kathy Hochul is the leader we need and trust to keep Brooklyn moving forward,” said Assemblymember Tremaine Wright (D-Bedford-Stuyvesant, Northern Crown Heights). “She fights for the progressive issues we value as New Yorkers. I fully endorse our Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, and look forward to continuing to work with her.”
“Kathy Hochul has spent her time in public office working to make life better for all women and children,” said District Leader and former Assemblymember Annette Robinson. “We can always count on her to advocate for policies that improve women’s lives, especially women of color who face the reality of a wage gap holding back equality. I am honored to support Kathy and endorse her for another term as our Lieutenant Governor.”
