Assemblywoman Ari Espinal (D-Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Corona) continues to gain momentum with less than a month until primary day in the 39th Assembly District race.
That after the New York Hotel Trades Council (HTC) endorsed her this week, giving the lawmakers a virtual sweep in organized labor support.
Previously, Espinal picked up the support of the city’s public school teachers (United Federation of Teachers, UFT), the country’s largest property service worker’s union (32BJ SEIU), the healthcare workers union (1199SEIU), the civil services workers union (DC 37) and transit union workers (TWU).
“Assemblywoman Ari Espinal has devoted her life to serving her community and the Hotel Trades Council is excited to endorse her. She is a tireless advocate for affordable housing, protections for immigrants, workers’ rights, transportation improvements, and resources for our schools, and she knows how to bring results home. I urge all of our members to support her on September 13th,” said Jason Ortiz, Political Director of the New York Hotel Trades Council.
Espinal said she was excited to gain the support of all New York City’s unions as organized labor creates opportunities for working families and the fight for fair wages, preventing discrimination, and ensuring progressive values for all New Yorkers.
“As the daughter of a proud union member, I know first hand the positive impact a union job can have on a family, especially for the thousands of union families in our community,” says Espinal.
Espinal said the organized labor’s support and continued strength is especially important now as the Trump Administration continuously attacks the middle class and worker’s rights.
“With the Trump Administration and Republicans in control in Washington, our leaders in Albany must take the lead to support our working families and fight for more affordable housing, better schools, and stronger protections for victims of harassment,” said Espinal.
Among Espinal’s electeds support includes U.S. Reps. Grace Meng and José E. Serrano, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, Councilman Francisco Moya, Assemblywoman Deborah Glick, and New York City Councilman Ritchie Torres.
The primary is Sept. 13. Also running is Catalina Cruz and Yonel Letellier Sosa.
