Adams To Highlight Chronic NYCHA Issues At Albany Houses
Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams will visit tenants at New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)’s Albany Houses alongside Cynthia Nixon today.
The duo will use the visit to spotlight chronic issues facing public housing in Brooklyn, a borough that is home to 99 developments with more than 58,000 apartments. Nixon is the newest candidate to announce her bid in the Gubernatorial Democratic primary against two-term incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The tour comes days after the two corresponded over Twitter following Adams’ invitation “to hear directly from tenants who’ve lived through years of government neglect, caught in the endless back-and-forth between Albany lawmakers.”
Adams has been outspoken on the issues that NYCHA tenants face, from urging the State to prioritize critical roof repairs and raising concerns about lead exposure to advocating for greater repair transparency and securing funding for security upgrades in developments across the borough.
The event is slated for 10 :30 a.m., today, March 28, at Albany Houses, at 1414 Bergen Street in Crown Heights.
Harris’ Bill Designating Safe Zones At Beaches Passes
Assembly member Pamela Harris’ (D-Coney Island, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights) bill designating safe zones at Brooklyn beaches passed the State Assembly yesterday.
The new piece of legislation, A.7937-A, will help to protect swimmers at Coney Island beaches from jet skis and other personal watercrafts.
Additionally, the measure would authorize the commissioner of the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to install navigational aids 500 feet from the shoreline, creating a safe zone in which no watercraft would be permitted to enter. The legislation is part of Harris’ continued efforts to increase safety and improve quality of life for Coney Island residents.
“Most beaches have navigational aids to direct jet skis and boaters away from swimmers,” Harris said. “It’s only right that we have the same protections for the thousands of people who enjoy Brooklyn’s beaches every year,” said Harris.
Golden Announces Spring Recycling Event
State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Marine Park, Gerritsen Beach, Gravesend, Manhattan Beach) announced the dates of his Spring Recycling Event yesterday.

The event is slated for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 21, at St. Anselm Church Parking Lot, at 4th Avenue (between 81st & 82nd Streets) in Bay Ridge.
The second event is slated for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 22, at Parine Park – Avenue U Parking Lot (between Stuart & East 33rd Street) in Marine Park.

State Senator Roxanne J. Persaud (D-Canarsie, East New York, Brownsville, Mill Basin, Sheepshead Bay, Bergen Beach, Marine Park, Flatlands, Mill Island, Georgetown, Ocean Hill, Starrett City) hosted a highly successful Easter Egg Hunt for a second year over the weekend.
The hours long event was fun-filled and gave kids and parents an opportunity to play and collect Easter eggs. Persaud also gave out special treat bags and snacks. The event also featured a visit from the Easter Bunny himself.
“It was a pleasure to have so many young families come out for this event to enjoy the season anda beautiful day in Canarsie Park. Many thanks to our community partner organizations who helped make this happen,” said Persaud.
“It is important that these children and parents are able to have fun here at home and learn more about all that our district and surrounding community has to offer. I am thrilled that this was such a resounding success,” added Persaud.
