Both Yoni Hikind and Kalman Yeger – the two candidates looking to replace outgoing City Councilman David Greenfield (D-Boro Park, Bensonhurst, Kensington, Midwood) – picked up key endorsements for the Nov. 7 general election one week from today.

Yeger, who has the Democratic and Conservative Party lines, received the endorsement of all four Democratic Borough Presidents including Eric Adams (Brooklyn), Gale Brewer (Manhattan), Ruben Diaz Jr. (Bronx), and Melinda Katz (Queens).

“I am proud to endorse Kalman Yeger for City Council. Kalman is exactly the type of strong, capable, and selfless public servant we need in the Council,” said Adams. “I’ve known Kalman for years and I have witnessed his passion and commitment to our neighborhoods. Kalman’s experience in government and public service is the reason I have repeatedly re-appointed him to his community board, where he has served with honor and integrity. Kalman understands the challenges facing our borough and our city, and he is exactly the right person to tackle those challenges.”

Yeger, who has been a Democratic Party operative for several candidates across the city for a number of years, thanked the borough presidents for their support.

“New York City’s Borough Presidents are champions for the communities they serve,” Yeger said. “Having served six years under a Borough President, I know firsthand the hard work they do. I look forward to working with them over the next four years as we strengthen Borough Park, Bensonhurst, Midwood and all of our neighborhoods across New York City.”

Meanwhile, Hikind, the son of Assemblyman Dov Hikind received endorsements from former New York State Governor George Pataki, U. S. Senator Al D’Amato and Congressman Bob Turner. All three elected officials are prominent Republicans who enjoyed and maintained excellent working relationships with the Jewish community, especially traditional, Orthodox Jews.

“I’ve known Yoni since he was a child,” said Pataki. “He displays the solid values that he was raised with. Yoni Hikind is caring, professional and more than likable—in short, he has the tools to make an outstanding City Councilman.”

“Yoni Hikind has the vision, values and fighting spirit that one should expect from their elected official,” said D’Amato. “Let there be no question: He is the best man for the job.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of such great elected officials as Governor George Pataki, Senator Al D’Amato and Congressman Bob Turner,” said Yoni Hikind. “I look forward to bringing the 44th City Council District representation that reflects the real values and needs of our community.”

While Yoni Hikind picked up these three endorsements, Kings County Republican Chair Teddy Ghorra said the Brooklyn GOP has not endorsed either candidate to date, and it is as of yet to be determined if they will make an endorsement.
