Senator Roxanne J. Persaud (D-Canarsie, East New York, Brownsville, Mill Basin, Sheepshead Bay, Bergen Beach, Marine Park, Flatlands, Mill Island, Georgetown, Ocean Hill, Starrett City) last Friday doubled the number of activities for families at her second Annual Senate District 19 (CD-19) Family Fun Day.
Hundreds of participants from across the district descended upon Canarsie Park on Seaview Avenue and East 93rd Street to bask in the glorious sunshine and take advantage of the services and resources provided by the many vendors.
“Our families deserve access to activities that are not only affordable but enriching. In the district, many families face the challenge of finding affordable fun activities they can enjoy with the entire family. I am delighted to host events that provide family friendly entertainment as well as furnish families with information about the vast services available to them,” said Persaud.
It was evident from the wide range of services provided, that this event was expertly organized with the needs of the community in full focus. Vendors disseminated a wealth of relevant resources. Vendors even remarked that the event presented the opportunity for them to network and therefore, provide even more resources in the future for the community. It was a resounding success.
From start to finish, enthusiastic tykes and teenagers flitted from stall to stall eager to see what was in store for them, and they were not disappointed. The puppet show held the children at rapt attention. Youngsters were captivated by the dramatic portrayal of the Cinderella story. Brightly attired clowns showed off their artistry with creative balloon designs.
The face painters were a smashing hit. The lines seemed endless, as scores of kids waited patiently to have their faces decorated. Stilt walkers adeptly paraded their balancing act, as they strode across the park, much to the amazement of the crowd.
In addition to other refreshments, Department of Education Food Services provided 500 boxed lunches for children. Everyone kept cool on a hot day by eating watermelons provided by Pagano Watermelon distributors.
This event was in keeping with Senator Persaud’s advocacy for supporting families and building community spirit within SD-19.
