Quaglione Takes On Citibike Expansion
City Council candidate John Quaglione (R-Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach) met with June Johnson of Community Board 10 to discuss practical solutions for Citibike expansion, while keeping premium parking areas in the 43rd district.
“There is a way to accommodate drivers and bikers, and find a solution without creating more problems for local residents and shop owners.” said Quaglione. “Citibike should be built on sidewalks, not parking spaces, but more importantly bike station sites must be approved by our Community Board.”
Quaglione referenced downtown Brooklyn’s Brownstone community as an area where parking has become increasingly scarce as a result of incorrectly positioned CitiBike stations. While the candidate is in favor of the program, Quaglione insists the community should have a say as to where the cycling stations are allocated throughout the neighborhood.
“Our neighborhoods already suffer from a shortage of parking spaces,” said Quaglione. “Citibike can be a great incentive to reduce traffic and promote a healthy lifestyle, however, our families and businesses that need a car for their livelihood should not have to suffer because of Citibike expansion. If elected to City Council, I will not allow even one parking space to be taken by Citibike.”
Brannan Nabs TWO Endorsement
Transit Workers Union Local 100 (TWU) announced this week its endorsement of Democrat Justin Brannan for City Council in the upcoming Sept. 12 primary.
“South Brooklyn has a community champion and energetic advocate in Justin Brannan,” said TWU International and Local 100 President John Samuelsen. “Justin stood with the hardworking men and women of TWU to restore the B37, and has fought to increase service on the R, N, and D lines to expand access for Brooklyn residents. Justin delivers, and that’s why I trust him to fight for seniors and working families on the City Council.”
Brannan’s commitment to addressing transportation issues is reflected in the TWU’s decision to endorse the candidate.
“New York State has shortchanged the New York City transit system for far too long,” said Brannan. “The men and women of TWU are on the front lines every day working to literally keep our city running. I’m proud to have their endorsement and look forward to fighting to get Brooklyn residents and transit workers the resources they need and deserve.”
McCabe Opens Dyker Heights Office
City Council candidate Liam McCabe (R-Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach) this week opened a campaign office in the Dyker Heights area of the district.
“I am excited to open my campaign office on 15th Avenue in Dyker Heights. One of the reasons I am running for city council is to represent and to support people across the whole district that includes Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst and Bath Beach, not just the Bay Ridge neighborhood where I live,” said McCabe.
The office is located at 6903 15th Avenue.
