Brownstone Brooklyn Political Roundup

traditional-exterior

The Independent Neighborhood Democrats (IND) and Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats (CBID), two of the reform clubs of Brooklyn Politics, have held endorsement meetings over the past two weeks.

Both clubs endorsed Mayor Bill de Blasio, Comptroller Scott Stringer and Public Advocate Tish James for their respective re elections.

The clubs diverge, however, when it comes to the district attorney race. IND overwhelmingly endorsed its female Democratic district leader, and former First Assistant District Attorney, Anne Swern while CBID went for Acting District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

The DA race is, of course, boroughwide, but the base of these clubs (the 52nd & 44th Assemby Districts) are two of the highest turnout districts. In a race with multiple candidates (six as of now) no potential votes can be ignored. For some context of turnout, 52nd District Assembly Member Jo Anne Simon received the most vote of any assembly candidate in the 2016 election while the vote total of her losing opponent in the 2014 primary’ would have been enough to win almost any other district in the State.

On the judicial side of endorsements, the IND voted to support Hermalee Patel for Civil Court in the  6th municipal district, and David Pepper, Connie Mallafre Melendez and Isiris “Isela” Isaac in the Countywide Civil Court judgeship races.

CBID makes its judicial endorsements next week so we’ll see if there are any more points of difference between these two clubs.
