Adams Responds To Trumpcare Threat Endangering Brooklyn Hospitals

Adams and medical professionals will lay out the critical issues surrounding this campaign and the measures Brooklynites can take to save themselves time and money as they navigate the health care system.
The campaign is slated for 9:30 a.m., today, May 8 at the Brookdale Urgent Care Center, 1235 Linden Boulevard in East Flatbush.

Schumer Applauds Green’s Withdrawal From Consideration As Army Secretary
U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) praised Senator Mark Green’s (R-Tenn) decision to withdraw from consideration for U.S. Army Secretary last week citing his lack of tolerance for LGBTQ individuals and minority groups.
“Mark Green’s decision to withdraw his name from consideration as Army Secretary is good news for all Americans, especially those who were personally vilified by his disparaging comments directed toward the LGBTQ community, Muslim community, Latino community and more. He was the wrong choice to serve as Secretary, and should not have been nominated in the first place,” said Schumer.
“As I said before, a man who was the lead sponsor of legislation to make it easier for businesses to discriminate against the LGBTQ community; opposes gay marriage, which is the law of the land; believes being transgender is a ‘disease;’ supports constricting access to legal contraception; and makes deeply troubling comments about Muslims is the wrong choice to lead America’s Army,” said Schumer.
Green claims the withdrawal was due to “mischaracterization” and “false facts” made by the media about his “christian beliefs.”

Persaud Pushes For Vote On Gun Violence Prevention Bill
State Sen. Roxanne Persaud (D-Canarsie, East New York, Brownsville, Mill Basin, Sheepshead Bay, Bergen Beach, Marine Park, Flatlands, Mill Island, Georgetown) pushed for a vote on her common sense gun violence legislation last week in Albany.
Persaud along with Assembly member Jo Anne Simon (D-Boerum Hill) introduced bill, S4363, last year in the State Assembly that would establish a Firearm Violence Research Institute in New York State. The institute would examine the causes and impacts of firearm violence and identify and provide scientific evidence on which to base effective prevention efforts.
“In fighting gun violence it is important that we recognize the underlying factors that give rise to this epidemic. The introduction of varied legislation allows us to combat this scourge that is responsible for the loss of lives and increased aggression. It is important that we present a united front and work together if we are to eliminate this threat to our communities,” said Persaud.
