Golden, Albanian President Dedicate Saint Teresa Statue

imgres-20State Senator Martin J. Golden (Bay Ridge), the Albanian Roots organization, and Monsignor David L. Cassato, Pastor of St. Athanasius Roman Catholic Church, Sunday, will lead a statue dedication ceremony in recognition of Mother Teresa’s recent elevation to Sainthood.

The President of the Republic of Albania, Bujar Nishani, will be among the distinguished guests joining the ceremony.

The program will feature an array of musical and dance performances honoring Mother Teresa, now Saint Teresa, and spiritual reflection and prayer. The statue will be blessed by Monsignor Cassato, and immediately following the ceremony, the Alba Life School and local dance academies, will provide entertainment in celebration of this event.

The event is slated for 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25 at the corner of 61st Street and Bay Parkway.


Black Live Matter, James E. Davis Stop Violence Foundation Lead Rally To End Violence Rally

Black Lives Matter Greater New York, and the James E. Davis Stop Violence Foundation  tomorrow will lead a group of activists, celebrities and neighborhood folks in a rally to end violence.

This violence includes the recent tragedies that occurred at the J’Ouvert celebration in Brooklyn killing Tiarah Poyau, 22, and Tyreke Borel, 17; Wali Camara who was shot and killed in a Bronx Bodega last month, and the fatal stabbing of Ithaca College student Anthony Nazaire after a party at Cornell University have prompted BLM NY to take immediate action.

BLM NY Founder Hawk Newsome got in touch with Geoffrey Davis, the 43rd Assembly Democratic District leader and head of the Stop the Violence Foundation to hold the rally. Since then The Black Institute Founder Bertha Lewis along with Celebrity Nick Cannon, Civil Rights Attorney Stanford Rubenstein, Anthony Nazaire Family, Wali Camara Family, Tiarah Poyau Family, Black Lives Matter Greater New York, Community Leaders, Clergy, and families of victims of senseless violence all signed on.

The rally is slated for 1 p.m., tomorrow at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Empire Boulevard (next to Western Beef).


Behrman Meets With Top Israeli Officials

Rabbi Yaacov Behrman, founder of the Jewish Future Alliance in Crown Heights, this week met both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the country’s Minister of Science, Technology and Space Ofir Akunisas as they were in New York to attend a forum on Israeli technology and innovation in Africa  at the United Nations on Thursday

Behrman wrapped Tefilin (a set of small black leather boxes containing scrolls of parchment inscribed with verses from the Torah) with Akunis. He also thanked Netanyahu for his leadership during these difficult times.

“Bibi is the lion of Israel” Behrman said.
