New York State Senator Jesse Hamilton (Central Brooklyn) and the City’s Parks Department in partnership with Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, City Councilman Robert Cornegy (Bedford-Stuyvesant) and State Senator Kevin Parker (Flatbush, Midwood, Kensington, Windsor Terrace) will present the long awaited Brooklyn Senior Games beginning with a Torch Relay run by senior athletes throughout the borough.
Brooklyn Senior Games promotes a positive senior image and encourages life-long fitness activities. The Games will celebrate Brooklyn seniors (age +50) while offering competitive games like bowling, swimming, table tennis, track and field and more!
“I’m proud to work with colleagues, NYC agencies, and community partners across Brooklyn to highlight Brooklyn senior citizen athletes and announce the upcoming Senior Games. These accomplished men and women demonstrate that staying active has no age limit. I invite the public to cheer on these athletes and wish all the participants the best as they go for gold,” said Hamilton.
Adams noted the golden years are a time of life for seniors to remain active by pursuing interests that might have been deferred by work or raising a family.
“At the Brooklyn Senior Games, our senior track stars, tennis aces, and champion swimmers will have an opportunity to get back in the game, improving their fitness and enjoying the glories of competitive sports,” said Adams.
Cornegy said for many years, he has supported the borough’s seniors as they have competed with pride on the state level and bought home the gold.
“This year, I am extremely proud to co-host the Brooklyn Senior Games in my beloved borough. Our seniors have provided us with an awesome legacy and we are proud beneficiaries of their leadership in the areas of health, wellness and active living,” he said.
