Assemblywoman Pamela Harris (Coney Island, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights) today dispelled any rumors she has of running for female Democratic District leader in the 46th Assembly District.

“I fully support the my current district leader Dilia Schack and I will do everything I can to support her for reelection,” said Harris. “She has always been my district leader and she’s done a great job.”

Schack, who comes from the powerful Shorefront Democratic Club in Coney Island, was an early and big supporter of Harris to get the Democratic nod in last year’s special election to succeed Alec Brook-Krasny in the assembly.

She could not be reached for comment as she is still grieving for her husband, former State Supreme Court Justice Arthur Schack, who died last week.

There has been rumors that Schack may not run for re-election because of her own health, but Harris said she fully expects Schack to run and even if she doesn’t, she will not seek the seat.

“I love my job as the assembly woman and want to continue to represent the residents of this district to the best of my ability in Albany,” said Harris.

Harris did say she will support City Council Member Mark Treyger (Coney Island, Bensonhurst, Gravesend), who announced he will run for the male Democratic Party District leadership in the 46th Assembly District.

Harris also announced she is opening her Bay Ridge office at 10 a.m., May 13. The office is located at 8525 3rd Avenue. Assembly speaker Carl Heastie will also be on hand to attend the opening and to meet and greet residents.
