The Brooklyn Nets announced earlier this week that they have hired Trajan Langdon as their assistant GM.

“We are very pleased to welcome Trajan and his family to the Brooklyn Nets,” said General Manager Sean Marks. “Trajan is someone I worked with closely at the Spurs, and he brings a unique combination of NBA and European experience to the position.”

The son of an anthropology professor, Langdon is known as probably the greatest shooter to ever come out of the state of Alaska.  After a three year stint in the NBA, the former Duke Blue Devil standout went on to play pro ball in Italy, Turkey and Russia.  Following his playing days, Langdon became a scout for the Spurs where he built up the connection with Marks.

Most recently Langdon worked as the Cavaliers’ director of player administration and basketball operations.  Since he was signed to the Cavs, Marks was grateful that the team allowed him out of his contract so that he could make the move to Brooklyn.  Marks mentioned this in the press release.

“Trajan’s recent front office post with Cleveland added to his professional resume, and I want to thank the Cavs for their cooperation in this effort. The Nets look forward to Trajan’s contributions.”

For Marks, the key ingredient to Langdon’s resume is his European experience as a player and also working as a scout.  Going forward, expect Marks to put a lot of stock in international players and Langdon certainly understands this from his time in San Antonio.  Marks knows that the Nets can’t be the Spurs, but he will do a lot to mimic what they have done in their front office to attain their championship success.

Based on his history and reputation, this is probably a stepping-stone for Langdon.   Those that are familiar with the Alaskan Assassin say that he is without a doubt, a future GM in waiting.  Right now though, Langdon has a lot on his plate which will consist of helping Marks reload this Nets roster so that they can bring better basketball to Brooklyn.
