Sheepshead Bay Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz, Chair of the Aging Committee, will deliver remarks at a public forum Wednesday called by the New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) to help determine the feasibility of creating an Office of Community Living (OCL).

The Borough Hall event is one of nine community listening sessions being held across the state to hear input and recommendations from consumers and providers on the creation of the new OCL. Legislation enacted in 2015 authorized NYSOFA to conduct the feasibility study. The Aging Committee agreed to support the study with the requirement that public comment be given priority in both the study and SOFA’s evaluation.

“It is important that we keep an open mind to new opportunities and options to improve service delivery and quality of life for seniors and people with disabilities,” Cymbrowitz said. “An Office of Community Living could be one possibility, but the Office for the Aging needs to hear from you – providers and consumers of services – before they can evaluate the appropriateness of such an Office for our State and communities.”

The forum is slated for 1-3 p.m., tomorrow, Sept. 30 at Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon Street.
