Both the Brooklyn GOP and their candidate for the vacant 46th Assembly district seat, Lucretia Regina-Potter, have hit the ground running in efforts to win the Republicans their second elected seat that fully represents the borough.
Currently, only Bay Ridge Sen. Marty Golden, represents a fully Brooklyn district, while Republican Congressman Dan Donovan and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis each represent small parts of Brooklyn with the larger part of their district being in Staten Island.
Almost all the local Republican leadership and state GOP operatives were on hand last week at the kickoff fundraiser for Regina-Potter at Gargiulo’s Restaurant in Coney Island.
Regina-Potter is currently the Republican District Leader in the 46 th Assembly District. She is married for 25 years and is the mother of two children. She attended St. Francis Cabrini grammar school, Bishop Kearney High School and Fordham University where she received a B.A. degree. She is currently a design consultant at Bari Tile and Stone in Brooklyn, and is a member of many business executive and local community groups, and supports several local youth soccer and athletic programs.
“I was born, raised and grew up in Brooklyn. I still enjoy the beaches, the shopping, and the hometown feel of our area. Brooklyn is the best county in the nation with the best people and it deserves the very best leadership! People who are raised in a community such as ours know what our neighborhood concerns are,” said Regina-Potter.
“As a Republican Leader, I have the experience and know how to deal with many issues concerning our quality of life. I am dedicated to the concerns of our families, neighborhood improvement, and helping the small business owner who is the backbone of any community,” she added.
Regina-Potter followed the fundraiser with retail politicking yesterday at the Greek Festival in Bay Ridge.
Meanwhile, her Democratic opponent Pamela Harris and her campaign team met last week with Kings County Democratic Party Chair Frank Seddio to strategize her campaign. The State Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee and its’ chair Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie are reportedly fully involved in the campaign as well.
Harris, also a product of Catholic schools, holds both a bachelors and masters degree and has a very strong base in Coney Island where she is a well know community activist. The former corrections officer was also instrumental in helping local residents get through the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy and continues to make inroads in Bay Ridge.
The district includes Coney Island, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and small patches of Gravesend, Bath Beach and Brighton Beach. While Coney Island is mainly Democratic, Dyker Heights is a strong Republican/Conservative Party stronghold.
Among the areas in the district expected to be most in play to determine the election include Bay Ridge and Coney Island’s large housing developments near Brighton Beach including Trump Village, Luna Park and Warbasse.
The election is Nov. 3.
