Lucretia Regina-Potter, the Republican nominee for the vacant 46th District Assembly seat, officially received the endorsement of the Conservative Party for the expected November special election.
The seat opened up with this summer’s resignation of Alec Brook-Krasny in a district that includes Coney Island, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and smidgens of Bath Beach and Brighton Beach.
“We interviewed her (Regina-Potter) and had a well-attended county committee meeting and we approved backing her after a solid interview,” said Brooklyn Conservative Party Chair Jerry Kassar. “She went over a lot of her views – both local and on the state level. She’s a longtime community activist and agrees with our views in lowering taxes and on social issues and crime.”
Kassar said the party will obviously campaign for her and are hoping for a good solid return on their vote, in which the Conservative Party’s vote will become more crucial in what is expected to be a low voter turnout.
Regina-Potter said she was very pleased and honored to receive the endorsement of the Kings County Conservative Party whose many political views she shares and supports.
“The major issues in my campaign regarding the illegal conversions of homes in our area, the rise in crime in our district, and parents’ choice on the education of their children, are indicative of my commitment to promote positive fiscal, social, and moral values in the 46th Assembly District. As the Assemblywoman of the 46th AD, the people of this district will finally have a representative that echoes and reflects the voice of the people,” she said.
On the other side of the spectrum, the Working Families Party Brooklyn Chapter endorsed Democrat Pam Harris, but it is far from certain that the longtime Coney Island grassroots activist will officially get the WFP line on the ballot.
“The screening committee had an intense deliberation. It’s definitely too early to predict where we’re going to end up given that our process is ongoing,” said WFP NYC Political Director Britney Whaley.
The Democratic Party has also yet to make an endorsement. While Harris is the front runner on the strength of her garnering the most votes from Coney Island’s Shorefront Democratic Club Executive Committee, she does have competition for the party non. This includes high-powered Bay Ridge Attorney Cody McCone is picking up some strength with the district’s county committee members.
Additionally, both Brook-Krasny’s former chief of staff Kate Cucco, and former City Councilman Mike Nelson have been making the rounds among county committee members.
Kings County Democratic Party Chair Frank Seddio is expected to call the meeting among the district county committee members on Sept. 16. He has stated he will allow the district to pick the candidate unencumbered by his input, but will work hard to make sure a Democrat is elected.
