Bedford-Stuyvesant City Councilman Robert Cornegy Jr., this week hosted noted Brooklyn filmmaker Spike Lee, Monday, at City Hall.  The occasion was Lee’s iconic movie, Do The Right Thing, about a hot summer day in the life of the neighborhood, being honored with a street co-naming.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Golden To Speak in Bed-Stuy

Republican Bay Ridge State Sen. Marty Golden will travel to Bedford-Stuyvesant, tonight, to address residents feeling disenfranchised with the Democratic Party in a community speak out.

The Little Peoples Movement For Change is sponsoring the event. Longtime Central Brooklyn Democratic Party operative James Caldwell and Daisy James, the former chief of staff for Congressman Hakeem Jeffries when he served in the assembly, started the organization recently after changing their party affiliation.

Golden, the borough’s only elected GOP lawmaker, has been attending events in various neighborhoods around Brooklyn, and making inroads for the party becoming more inclusive with people of color and new immigrants.

The event includes food and refreshments.

Colton, Tong Out And About At Almonte’s Food Dynasty

Assemblyman William Colton and 47th Assembly Democratic District Leader Nancy Tong, this week, attended the 5th Annual Almonte’s Food Dynasty Neighborhood Barbecue at the shop’s 15th Avenue and 86 street store location.

As huge supporters of local business owners, Colton and Tong praised Almonte’s Food Dynasty and Boars Head for hosting this excellent annual neighborhood event and adding to the good will and spirit of the community.

Both Colton and Tong said in a joint statement that they forward to more events such as this one to bring the neighborhood even closer together.


Williams, Weinstein Co-Host Pre-Labor Day Senior Concert

Flatlands City City Council Member Jumaane D. Williams and Flatlands Assembly Member Helene Weinstein invites the community to their fourth annual Pre-Labor Day Senior Concert this Friday.

Each year, this concert has been a way to thank elders of the 45th Council District, who in countless ways have trail blazed a path for our community to enjoy the many freedoms we have today.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature musical performances by the IET Band and the Sesame Flyers Steel Pan Orchestra. Sponsors include Millennium Development, Sesame Flyers, Haitian-American Centers Council (HCC), Golden Crust, Lord’s Bakery, Pathmark and Emblem Health.

The concert is slated for between 1-3 p.m., tomorrow, Aug. 13 at Amersfort Park on Avenue I between East 38th and East 39th Streets.
