Ivy League Graduates Offer Central Brooklyn Students Help On SATs

IvyLeagueA Manhattan-based test prep and tutoring company, that hires exclusively Ivy League graduates is gearing up to help send high school students from Medgar Evers College Preparatory School, John Dewey High School and Brooklyn Academy for Global Finance to Ivy League universities and top-tier colleges in the country.

Under their Climbing Ivy program, the test prep and tutoring company called The Ivy, send Ivy League graduates to economically disadvantaged neighborhoods in the tri-state region to provide free SAT test prep sessions for the new SAT 2016.

“Education is the only way that an individual can truly alter their socioeconomic standing and change the trajectory of future generations,” said Founder Jae Gardner, who is a Harvard graduate and was accepted into four Ivy League universities and five of the most prestigious colleges in the country at the age of 16. “ “It is important that students of all socioeconomic backgrounds have the opportunity to access a great education—increasing one’s educational prowess opens up the doors of global opportunity and it allows you to be open to various cultures and ways of thinking.”

Since the company was founded in 2009, students who have successfully completed the Ivy Key program experienced a consistent increase in their scores on U.S. standardized tests including the SAT, ACT, PSAT, SAT Subject Tests, SSAT and SHSAT.

The free summer SAT sessions will prepare college-bound students for the redesigned SAT exam, set to launch in spring 2016. This new SAT consists of two sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Mathematics. Students may also write an optional 50-minute essay.

The new test, which is scored out of 1600 and no longer penalizes students for wrong answers, is designed to mirror the coursework that students see in school. The Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section consists of key documents from science, history, and social studies; asks students to support answers with evidence from the texts and from informational graphics; and tests more widely used, less obscure vocabulary. The Mathematics section will include higher-level concepts, such as trigonometry.

The Ivy Key, which services over a hundred public and charter schools and community organizations throughout the New York Tri-state area, is dedicated to fostering strong tutor-student relations and is equipped to ease the anxiety many students face when going through the college admissions process. Ultimately, they intend to create an academic environment that encourages mental and intellectual nourishment and prepares students for college and life beyond.

Deadline for enrollment: Friday, June 12th. For more information about the free summer SAT course, please visit the company’s website at TheIvyKey.com or call 855-IVY-TUTOR.
