Mayor Bill de Blasio: “Our hearts are heavy today as we mourn the loss of Police Officer Brian Moore. For five years, Brian served with distinction and he put his life on the line each day to keep us all safe. On Saturday, he made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the people of New York City. During this tragic time, New Yorkers must come together to support the Moore family in any way we can, and on behalf of a grateful city, Chirlane and I extend our deepest sympathies to the Moore family and to the entire NYPD family.”

Public Advocate Letitia James: “I am deeply saddened by the death of Officer Brian Moore, and my thoughts and prayers are with his girlfriend, family, friends, and fellow officers. At a young age, Officer Moore was dedicating his life to protecting New Yorkers when a senseless act of violence took his life. Officer Moore’s service to our city and his sacrifice will never be forgotten. We will once again come together as one city and refuse to be divided in the face of this most recent act of vicious violence.”

Midwood City Councilman David Greenfield: “I join my fellow New Yorkers in mourning the untimely death of 25-year-old Police Officer Brian Moore who was killed in cold-blood while defending the citizens of our great city. Brian came from a family of police officers who have dedicated their lives to protecting all of us. This terrible murder is the fifth shooting of a police officer by a criminal in the last five months in New York City. It is a stark reminder of the great personal risk that New York’s Finest endure every single day on the job. That is why it is our duty as New Yorkers to support the NYPD and thank them for all that they do to make New York the safest big city in America.”

Flatbush City Councilman Jumaane Williams: “I was extremely distraught to hear that Officer Brian Moore lost the fight for his life this afternoon. It is a very sad day for the New York Police Department and the city as a whole. My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the family and friends of Officer Moore and the entire force, who have to deal with this extremely painful loss. At just 25-years-old, Officer Moore’s death is something our City cannot accept as just another tragedy. By all accounts, Officer Moore and his partner were doing all we ask of them by interacting with people reasonably suspected of having a weapon. They had the dangerous task of engaging potentially armed persons and trying to get weapons off the street. This was the job we asked of them and they did it with pride, but now Officer Moore is dead.

“My hope is that this tragedy forces us to find that intersection of support for our men and women of the NYPD, who face potential danger every day, and our overwhelming access to guns and penchant for violence. How many New Yorkers and Americans have to die before we adequately deal with gun violence? And how many police officers like Officer Moore – who was only 25 years of age and only 5 years on the job – have to die in the line of duty.

“We must mourn the loss of a life taken too soon. We must, also, demand change.”

“We must uphold justice by calling out injustice, by peacefully protesting against the deaths of our fellow Americans, by reforming the systems that have let us down and left families grieving for their sons, husbands, and children. We cannot uphold justice by perpetrating injustice upon our neighbors, our friends, and our communities” said Hamilton.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the traffic accident upstate that killed three people from the Bethesda French Seventh-day Adventist Church — including one teenager — as they were coming home from the Greater New York Conference Men’s Prayer Convention in Ellenville, New York,” the two Lawmakers said.

“Our prayers for peace, comfort and healing are with the family and friends of those who passed, and additional prayers of healing for those still in the hospital. The Bethesda French church is dealing with unimaginable grief, and our offices will do whatever we can to aid during this extremely difficult time. One thing is certain though, the Haitian men who have passed and those injured are examples for our community as great men of faith, and this church will be a bedrock as we move forward after this horrible loss.”
