Geoffrey Davis, one of four candidates running for the vacant 43rd District Assembly seat in the May 5 special election, today called on the city to stop flooding parts of his district with social services programs.

Davis said in about one square mile between East New York Avenue and Midwood Street, and Utica and Troy avenues there are between 12-15 social services programs.

“The homeowners and local residents are outraged that all of these programs are in this particular radius of this community,” said Davis. “We’re not speaking out against social services programs, but we feel an entire city should take on and share in the responsibilities and not just one small area in a one-mile radius.”

Davis said there are four homeless shelters across the street from a public school and now the city wants to build an eight-story mental health rehabilitation housing facility in the same neighborhood.

Davis is one of four candidates running for the seat representing the neighborhoods of Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens and East Flatbush. With no Democratic Party candidate running in the heavily Democratic district the contest is wide open.
