Dan Donovan, the GOP candidate for the upcoming 11th Congressional District special election, today, delivered a Purim message for all the Jews around the world that celebrate the holiday.

“Purim is a holiday of joy and happiness, of exchanging gifts with one another and giving charity to the poor. Jews will also read the scroll of Esther that tells the tale of both the evil edict and how the tables were turned. Given that thousands of years later people are still persecuted for their religious or ethnic differences, it is a most relevant story for the times in which we live,” said Donovan, who is the Staten Island District Attorney.

“Today, Israel is threatened by those who have declared their intention to eliminate the Jewish State. However, the people of Israel do not stand alone in facing this threat. As we saw this week in Washington, the United States Congress stands firmly by their side. I wish all my Jewish  friends in New York and beyond a joyous Purim,” he added in an emailed statement.

His Democratic opponent, City Councilman Vinnie Gentile, did not return any emails or phone calls on any comments or news regarding his campaign.

The district includes Staten Island and parts of Southern Brooklyn. The special election is May 5.
