Adams Hosts Two Events At Borough Hall

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams will host to events today at Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon Street.

In the first event slated for 10 a.m. Adams will host Give Kids a Smile Day, offering free oral health exams and education to dozens of Brooklyn youth ages 3-12. He will also be the first to enter the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Dental Mobile Van, in order to show children that cleaning their teeth is easy and painless.

Dr. Reneida Reyes, president of the American Dental Association Foundation Board of Directors, will discuss the importance of preventative oral health for young Brooklynites. According to a 2012 report from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, about one in every four children have not had a preventive dental visit in the past year.

In the second event slated for 4 p.m., Adams  will honor the 75 years of combined service to New York City from NYPD Chief Gerald Nelson and Assistant Chief Owen Monaghan, both of whom are retiring from their posts as heads of Patrol Borough Brooklyn North and South, respectively.

Among those in attendance will be NYPD Chief of Department James O’Neill and representation from every police precinct in Brooklyn. Adams, a 22-year veteran of the NYPD, will speak about his experiences with Chiefs Monaghan and Nelson and express his thanks for their dedication and sacrifice, on behalf of all Brooklynites.
