Brooklyn Public Library announced today that two Zipcars are now available at each of the Bedford, Park Slope and Bay Ridge branches of Brooklyn Public Library for a total of six new vehicles.
The partnership will not only help the Library raise critical funds in support of its operations, but will also provide Brooklyn residents with a new transportation resource for trips in and outside of the city. The parking spots being reserved for Zipcar vehicles were previously unavailable for public use.
“Borrow it when you need it, return it when you’re done—it’s a cycle of sharing that is the foundation of both Brooklyn Public Library and Zipcar. We’re excited this partnership will provide discounted Zipcar rates for our patrons and at the same time raise needed funds for our branches,” said Linda E. Johnson, President and CEO of Brooklyn Public Library.
“Adding Zipcars to three Brooklyn Public Library branches will allow Library patrons access to even more ‘wheels when they want them’ at another convenient Brooklyn location,” said Anthony Fatone, Zipcar New York City General Manager. “Zipcar has been a long-standing member of the Brooklyn community since we first added vehicles over ten years ago. We are excited to be expanding that footprint to these iconic Brooklyn locations.”
Zipcar has supported Brooklyn Public Library in a number of ways this year; the car sharing company served as the lead sponsor of this year’s Support the Branches campaign, as well as a supporting sponsor of Bike the Branches, the library systems annual one-day bike ride exploring all 60 Brooklyn Public Library branches.
The new Zipcar parking locations are part of an ongoing partnership between the library system and Zipcar. Library members who sign up for Zipcar at www.zipcar.com/nycbpl will get $20 off their first year annual fee, as well as $25 in free driving credit.
As all vehicles in the Zipcar fleet have a unique name, the cars at the three Brooklyn Public Library locations will be named after famous literary figures. Zipcars can be reserved by members via the Zipcar smartphone app for Android and iPhone, online at www.zipcar.com, or over the phone. Rates start as low as $9.25 per hour and $84 per day (24 hours) and include gas, insurance and 180 miles per day.
