Canarsie City Councilman Alan Maisel kicked off a drive this week to bring cell phones to active military emebers so they can make free calls to family and friends, and a food drive for stateside veterans in need, Sheepsheadbites reports.

Bensonhurst, Gravesend and Coney Island City Councilman Mark Treyger is introducing legislation to make it illegal to text or talk on a cell phone, according to several news outlets. Mayor  Bill de Blasio reportedly supports the measure.

Speaking of Treyger  he also is announcing funding for improved street cleaning on important commercial corridors within his district.  The announcement  is slated for 10 am, this FRiday at the corner of 18th Avenue and 86th Street.
