Less than 24 hours after Kings County Politics reported that City Councilman Mark Treyger sent a letter demanding an explanation on why the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) money is shortchanging public medical facilities hit hard hit from Superstorm Sandy, he has seen rersults.
That after Mayor de Blasio and U. S. Sen. Charles Schumer announced yesterday that FEMA has committed at least $1.6 billion to repair and protect Sandy damaged public hospitals.
The $1.6 billion will go towards four public hospitals in the city including $923 million for Coney Island Hospital. It also means that construction can proceed to repair and reopen the Ida G. Israel Community Health Center in Coney Island, which was destroyed by Sandy.
