Recchia Campaign Stumbles Along

Democrat Domenic Recchia’s campaign to unseat incumbent Republican Congressman Michael Grimm appears to be imploding with the latest misstep being his dodging of the media, the New York Observer reports .

Recchia, who toyed with running for both Brooklyn Borough President and City Comptroller before deciding on running against Grimm in the 11th New York Congressional District covering Staten Island and Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst and Dyker Heights, has been showing misstep after misstep despite enjoying strong support from both the Kings County Democratic Party and the National Democratic Party Committee.

Grimm, who is facing a 20-count federal indictment related to tax and employment evasion when he owned a restaurant and who once threatened to throw a reporter over a capital building railing, appeared extremely vulnerable going into the campaign. But he has campaigned both hard and smart.

This is a strong case for voting for the lesser of two flawed candidates and probably a reason behind the Staten Island Advance, all but hiding their endorsement of Grimm.
