Susan Zhuang wins election in city’s first Asian-majority council district

John Ricottone is a New York City community leader, retired police officer and education advocate. He has been deeply involved in public education, serving in leadership roles within the Community Education Council (CEC). He currently serves as president of the CEC (2025-2027) and previously served as first vice president (2023-2025). Ricottone is known for hands-on activism, including organizing press conferences and working with elected officials, advocating for safer schools and expanded youth programs, and assisting residents with local issues even before running for office. His campaign focuses on key issues affecting Brooklyn families including public safety (addressing crime and youth violence) and affordability.
