CM Wong urges Department of Buildings, FDNY to pause Middle Village BESS permits for pending safety and environmental review

In a letter sent to the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) and the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) on Friday, March 20, Council Member Phil Wong is urging the organizations to place a hold on permits connected to the proposed Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at 64-30 69th Pl. in Middle Village, citing additional safety and environmental review.

Addressed to Ahmed Tigani, the DOB commissioner, and Lillian Bonsignore, the FDNY commissioner, Wong outlined concerns related to “a previously identified Recognized Environmental Condition at the site, as well as the property’s existing violations and its proximity to PS/IS 128, a daycare, and other community facilities,” according to a press release.
