The City Council said on Wednesday that it has identified roughly $6 billion in additional resources to fill a massive budget deficit — countering Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s preliminary budget plan without raising property taxes, cutting services or dipping into the city’s rainy day fund.
The April 1 release of the Council’s response marks the next phase of negotiations over the city’s spending plan for fiscal years 2026 and 2027, as City Hall and lawmakers now work toward a final budget deal by the end of June.
