Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Law Department moved Tuesday to end the taxpayer-funded defense of former Mayor Eric Adams in a sexual assault lawsuit filed against him in 2024, claiming his alleged actions are not eligible for city representation.
In a Manhattan Supreme Court filing, the city sought judge approval to drop Adams as a client, arguing that his alleged 1994 sexual assault of a female officer while he was a leader in her department doesn’t count as an action “within the scope of his public employment,” the necessary qualification for a person to receive legal representation from the city.
