As the 77th precinct Community Council President, I’m lucky to connect with many of New York’s most vulnerable citizens and hear their concerns for the future. For our senior citizens, access to secure, affordable health care like the Medicare Advantage Program often tops that list.
Our seniors have worked hard and contributed much to our communities. They deserve to know their Congressional lawmakers are prioritizing them by ensuring the continued viability of the Medicare Advantage program. Program participants like the program and appreciate that it puts them and their health care needs above administrative goals or corporate bottom lines. Its wide-ranging benefits—offering transportation to appointments, prescription drug coverage, preventative care, and essential services such as vision, dental, and hearing—support their individual medical needs and treatments. Family members & caretaking for seniors also needs lawmakers; support in stabilizing Medicare Advantage so they can continue to help their aging loved ones afford and access necessary treatments. It’s not just seniors who benefit from Medicare Advantage.
As a Community Council President working to foster meaningful relationships and connections between different groups like government entities and community members, I know what can happen when people come together for a common end. I call on lawmakers to come together to support Medicare Advantage for the seniors of today and those of tomorrow. Brian Saunders is the 77th Precinct Community Council President.
