The Montaukett Indian Nation is hoping that the New York State Legislature will override Gov. Kathy Hochul’s veto of a bill that would have granted the tribe state recognition.
The governor vetoed the bill on November 17, which further outraged members of the tribe, since the decision came down during National Native American Heritage Month.
