As president of the American Federation of Teachers, Randi Weingarten represents 1.7 million teachers, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, nurses, public servants, higher education faculty – the list goes on. These are men and women who are deeply committed to serving their communities and improving the lives of children. They also faced some of the most dramatic – and traumatic – changes during the pandemic. After two years of intense disruption to the public education system, Randi is now focusing on academic, social, and emotional healing for AFT’s members and the children they interact with on a daily basis. This is, Randi tells us, what the Labor movement is all about: making sure that each generation has more opportunities, and is better cared for, than the last.
