With the COVID-19 Pandemic flattened out, next Wednesday may be the time to dust off the resume and see what job opportunities are out there.
That’s when Acting Queens Borough President Sharon Lee will host the borough’s third “Virtual Queens Jobs Recruitment Fair”.
On hand will be job recruiters from the NYC Health + Hospitals, the United States Tennis Association (UST), Queens College and Young Adult Institute (YAI), the Child Center of New York, the Council for Airport Opportunity, Queens Center for Progress, the U.S. Census Bureau, Watch Guard 24/7 and Workforce1.
“Amidst the devastating impact of COVID-19, many employers are hiring to fill jobs in key sectors of our economy,” said Lee “We will have returning and new employers to answer questions live about available jobs now, including contact tracers, Census jobs, support professionals and more. The road to recovery and rebuild is on the horizon, and we want Queens to be at the forefront.”
Participants and viewers will hear brief presentations from employers and recruiters seeking to fill hundreds of positions in a variety of essential service fields including healthcare, transportation, retail, security and more.
Among the participating employers will be NYC Health + Hospitals, hiring to fill positions including contact tracers in the City’s Test & Trace Corps, which fights COVID-19 by helping New Yorkers receive free and easy testing for the virus and ensuring care and safe isolation to prevent community spread.
“Now more than ever, it is extremely important that we get a complete and accurate 2020 Census count and community members throughout Queens can help!” said U.S. Census Bureau New York Regional Director Jeff T. Behler. “First, we need everyone to fill out their 2020 Census, whether online, over the phone or on paper. Then, we need every willing and able Queens resident to apply for a short-term temporary job with the 2020 Census. $28 per hour and a great way to serve your community by ensuring all of Queens is counted!”
“The Council for Airport Opportunity (CAO) is once again honored to partner with Queens Borough President Sharon Lee,” said Council for Airport Opportunity Executive Director Andrew Campell. “We are seeing a growing need for more airport workers as we begin to safely and slowly recover from this devastating pandemic. Partnering with the Queens Borough President’s office on this recruitment fair will help the Queens community gain access to much needed employment opportunities. I applaud the Queens Borough President on her efforts to support Queens residents.”
